A sweetmeat box, (Mithaidani) or perhaps a Betel Box, (Pandan) in the elegant style of the Mughal nobility who once ruled India. Crafted with a petal motif surrounding the knob and the familiar melon like shape accented with fine silver beading this box probably once adorned a prosperous womans quarters. While the style is Mughal, we feel that this box was probably made in the late 19th C. A previous Western owner has had the box assayed and marked with .925. The box is in very good condition showing only light wear and abrasions with a small dent in the body as shown. Size, 5.75" diameter and 5.6" in height.
