Magnificent wine jug / flagon, made London, England circa 1850 by Richard Hennell. Measures 12inches tall (31cm) and weighs 1130 grams. Cylindrical shaped body, narrowing and curving slightly towards the lid. Body chased and engraved with fruit, scrolls and arches, somewhat Persian in style. Fabulous spout and scrolling handle with original heat insulators. Applied deeply carved oak leaves. Octogonal panelled finial on lid also hints at Persian or Turkish influence. Finial can be removed for ease of cleaning. Empty cartouches under spout allow for monogram or dedication. Excellent quality by top English silversmith. Fully hallmarked: next to handle, on handle, inside lid. Hallmarks are maker RH, date letter O, lion passant, leopard head and queen''s head. Condition is excellent except for a gentle dent on the base in front that can easilly be straightened out. No other damage of any sort to be seen.
