Whiting Manufacturing Company sterling silver berry serving spoon. Made 19th century before the company was taken over by Gorham. Measures 8 3/4inches and weighs about 4oz.Large berry spoon. The ruffle-edged deep bowl with raised scrolls, ridges and circles. The handel is richly decorated with repousse roses and scrolls. A delicate monogram near the edge with GWB initial. Fabulous quality work. Back has the company symbol and STERLING embossed. Very good condition. M Dolan in her book American Sterling Silver Flatware has this to say pg 210: The silver flatware of this company is still monumentally underpriced and when prices begin to reflect true value, both actual and historic, it will probably be too late to begin a collection.
