Sterling silver toddy punch ladle. Long handle is partly silver, partly twisted whale bone. Probably early to mid 19th century.Measures 16 1/4inches long.Scalloped, fluted oval bowl. Beautifully designed so that the center of the bowl looks like a flower. Handle curves away from the bowl and then twists for a number of inches before flaring to a tube that holds and secures the extention whale part of the handle. The nails used are hand made, which dates the ladle to the early 19th century. The wooden part of the handle is carved into a twisted echo of the silver, and ends in an oval knob. There are two hallmarks in lozenges on the back of the handle. One is the number 57 and the other is not in any of the silver books I looked in. Condition is very good. No damage of any sort.
