George III cake basket fashioned in sterling silver, London, 1754, by Edward Aldridge and John Stamper. The oval basket has pierced sides using a woven motif, and there is an original family armorial engraved in the basket's center. It is supported on a pierced foot ring and can be suspended from a twisted swing handle. Excellent condition, with no repairs, dings or damage. There is a full set of clearly struck hallmarks on the underside. Size: 12 3/8" length x 10 1/4" width x 10" height. Baskets in such pristine condition of this era are rare indeed. Aldridge specialized in the manufacture of baskets with fine pierced work.
