In this case (3-1/2 inches by 7-1/2 inches) of finely grained Madagascar ebony are all the toiletry implements necessary to maintain a gentleman during his travels: a brace of razors, a double- and a single-bladed pocket knife, an awl, a button hook, a multi-use fingernail tool and corkscrew for toiletry bottles, all in finest surgical steel and ivory. The razors bear the hallmark of English manufacturers R. Hovenden & Son and are as sharp as the day they were made, probably around 1870. In fact, all of the instruments are in superb condition and are a joy to look at.
