This outstanding cut glass dresser jar has a sterling silver top with the mark of Frank Whiting. The jar is about 3-1/2" high, 4-1/2" in diameter at the bottom. The sterling top is a little over 3" in diameter and slides down tightly over the glass base (there is no screw track at the neck). The glass blank is thick and heavy, and the jar with the top weigh about 1-1/2 pounds. There is a large star cut into the base of the glass which matches the stars cut all around the sides. The sterling top alone weighs over 1.7 troy ounces or 34.9 dwt. or 54.3 g. The condition of the base is excellent, and I have not found any chips or cracks or other faults. The sterling top is in great condition with just two tiny pin pricks on the side at the neck, one of which is visible in the picture. This piece dates to about 1890-1900, so it is in great condition for its age. It would make a beautiful addition to a dresser top collection.
