This unusual fancy shaker for talcum or powdered sugar is 4-1/2" high. The top is marked Sterling with a logo of the Wilcox Silver Plate Company of Meriden, CT in existence from 1865 to 1941. The top is full of beautiful repousse motifs of flowers and curled leaves. The collar of the base is simply marked Sterling. Wilcox was one of the original companies to become part of International Silver in 1898. This shaker dates to about 1890 or so. I believe that the cut patterns on the body of the glass are called strawberry diamonds with six pronged fans at the top. A star fills the entire base. The star motif is cleverly repeated in the holes of the sterling top. The glass appears to be in excellent condition, and I have not found any flea bites, cracks or chips. The sterling top is in very good condition with just a tiny pinprick above the mark.
