English cut glass toiletry jar of good quality with hinged sterling silver lid and neck ring - possibly for smelling salts or face creams etc, with an Edwardian hallmark for Chester 1906. Maker is J & R G. for Joseph and Richard Griffin. Jar measures 88 mm high and 50 mm diameter (3.1/2 inches by 2 inches). It has the initials C S in gothic-style script on the lid. Please excuse all the reflections in the silver! Condition: Externally, the silver and crystal are in excellent condition. Internally, there are a few little nicks in the glass inside the silver neck rings, and a little clouding to the inside bottom of the jar (may clean out with CLR or similar). It probably once had an inner stopper in the neck, but this is absent now. Lid snaps shut firmly. Elegant item for display on a dressing table.
