Handsome very large racing trophy, made by Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company (later Garrards), hallmarked for Sheffield 1926. Lions head side handles. Comes with original wooden oak base, but cup just sits on the base, so can be used on its own as a rose bowl. Cup weighs 1.600 kg. Engraved for the Devon & Exeter Steeplechases (with crest) - the Twysden Challenge Trophy, presented by Sir William A.D. Twysden, BtRN. The wooden base carries the winners' lists, 1969 through 1990. Cup itself (without the base) measures 24.5 cm diameter (including the lions masks it would be 30 cm wide) and 18 cm high (9.3/4 inches by 7 inches). Excellent condition.
