Antique sterling silver covered entree dish. Made London, 1901, during the beginning of the Edwardian period. Measures 13 1/4 inches long; 5 1/2 inches high; 10inches wide and weighs 965grams. Oval shape with shaped edges. Fluted sides give a full and lavish appearance. The borders, including the handle and inside of the lid, are all profusely decorated with raised flowers, fans, shells and scrolls. One side has engraved family coat of arms or crest. A raised fist with a sword and a deer with enormous antlers. The handle on the lid is easilly removable for ease of cleaning. Hallmarked on all parts with marks for London, date 1901, sterling silver and maker CE. Lid and fitting for lid are hallmarked STERLING. This, along with the F in the round cartouche, might indicate an official import from America. Besides natural light surface scratches, the dish is in very good condition.
