A set of 6 antique sterling silver forks by Gorham, made last quarter of the 19th century. Each fork is approx 6 7/8 inches long and weighs about 51 grams. Total weight approx. 10.11 troy oz. Luncheon or salad or fish forks. The Versailles pattern, long discontinued, was argueably the most elaborate and rich pattern of silverware made by Gorham. The forks are entirely made of sterling silver. The handles with opulent rococo design, featuring a mythological youth, holding a large cornucopia. The similarly decorated backs have a reserve instead of the young man. Monogram, P, beautifully engraved, adds to the rich history of these knives. In addition, the backs have a wonderful repousse mask amidst the rococo decoration. Hallmarks: Back of fork has the Gorham mark and STERLING under an ''H'' in a circle. Condition is very good.
