Antique sterling silver menu / place card holder with handpainted, signed miniature patings in watercolour of fruit. Made in Paris, France by the famous French silversmith Puiforcat. Measurements: a little over 2 1/4 inches long accross widest point. About 1 1/2 inches high. Combined weight about 75 grams. The two menu/place card holders are clearly made by the same manufactuer, and each contains a painting by the same artist, but they are not identical. Only one is signed by the manufacturer. Each is slightly fan shaped with a rounded top. The border of one is ridged with overlaid silver ribbons. Each contains a beautifully handpainted and signed still life of fruit. One is a painting of ripe pears lieing in a pile of foliage and the others is a group of red fruit on foliage and straw. Quality of the miniature painting is of the highest standard. Both pieces are artist signed Lemaitre. Both pieces have French silver hallmarks. One of the pieces (the one with the red fruit) has an engraved PUIFORCAT PARIS signature as well.
