This is Silver Plated Spirit Kettle which was used to put water in prior to making the tea. The spirit kettle would keep the water hot so you could replenish the tea pot. The spirit kettle has a wick which needs to be replaced and you would light it to keep the water hot, however, I think a better idea, one that would not hurt the appearance of the kettle is to use a Votive candles, they come in just about the right size. The kettle is so designed that it does not have to be picked up just tilt it and the water comes out the spout. The stand is very ornate and in good repair and looks wonderful. Excellent conversation piece for you antique tea pot collection.
