Gorgeous and early coin silver salver or footed tray by Gorham & Company of Providence RI. It was retailed by Crosby, Honnewell & Morse of Boston MA. Approximately 14" long and 10 1/4" wide. It is 1" high and weighs a hefty 28 troy ounces. 4 feet. Monogrammed in the center with a "W" as the prominent initial(see photo). Beautifully decorated with a floral, leafy, scroll design. It has a wonderfully beaded edge on the tray and each foot. Marks include the logo for Gorham & Co which is a lion, anchor and G. The lion is facing left. This mark was used from 1848-1865. Also on the back side is an applied coin spot which reads Crosby, Honnewel & Morse, COIN. BOSTON. They were the retailers. It is also inscribed in the center E.W. to M.N.W. Jan. 1, 1863. It is very unusual to find items dated exactly during the Civil War period as most resources went for paying for the war. Only a prominent person would be able to afford such luxuries during wartime. Excellent condition.
