The Silver Drawer offers coin silver flatware made by various silversmiths about 1865, including John Wendt, Gorham, Hotchkiss and Schreuder and the seldom seen California Schultz and Fischer This gravy ladle was made by the famous John Wendt whose pieces are usually seen with Ball, Black & Co.( New York City) stamped on the reverse as retailer. He did not use a manufacturing mark of his own as he did not retail his own silver. Dates about 1865. The portrait on the medallion is Minerva. There is a triple script monogram on the reverse. Length 7". It is a wonderful ladle, nice weight, well balanced.
