Victorian, circa 1870 Majolica centerpiece modeled as a scantily clad maiden, kneeling on a mottled base and supporting a pierced basket above her head. The basket is resting on a garland coil, the ends of which are held over her back by the maiden. Mottled brown and cobalt glazes to basket interior. Basket exterior decorated with cobalt flowers and spiky green leaves. Modeled on a scroll decorated base with washy ochre glaze to underside. Generally good. Tight hairline to basket rim. No chips. No flakes. Kiln effects: a few small glaze misses to the mottled base; shrinkage cracks to underside of base. Repair to reattach the basket. 13.5ins high, 8.5ins diameter at top
