Circa 1890 Majolica Palissy puzzle jug with mossy rim and pierced lattice neck supported by two snake entwined handles. The heads of the snakes form the spouts. Baluster formed body decorated with moths, frogs and beetles on mottled brown ground. Cream underside with stilt marks and impressed maker''s mark ''M.MAFRA CALDAS PORTUGAL''. Vent hole to underside of snakes. Good. No cracks. No hairlines. Flake to one moth. Slight wear to exterior. Kiln effect: glaze run to the exterior. Restored chip to base. Restoration of one snake head. 9.5ins high
