Victorian, circa 1870 George Jones Majolica sardine dish, cover and stand. Cover is decorated with flying pelicans, white flowers with green leaves, bamboos and a pelican forming finial on top. Dish has panels, seperated by bamboo, depicting fish, pond lily leaves and flowers on a rippled water effect ground. Mottled green and brown underside. Pink interior. The stand has a mottled green and brown center surrounded by bamboo. Mottled green and brown underside. Impressed GJ monogram and painted ''5449'' to underside. Three stilt marks to underside of all pieces. Maker''s marks painted ''P'' to underside of cover and dish. Indecipherable raised pattern registration diamond to underside of dish. Similar piece illustrated on page 96, Abrams ''Majolica A complete History and illustrated Survey'' by Karmason & Stacke. Good. No restoration. Dish: Kiln effects: some crazing to interior; glaze thin in some areas to interior and to high points on the exterior. Cover: Kiln effects: crazing and craze lines to pelican. Stand: Very slight wear to bamboo inner rim and to underside.
