Circa 1880 Chinese Export Rose Medallion Rare Syllabub Cup with original Cover. This is Great Rarity and we are posting three of these syllabubs with their original covers on our web site--www.mimisantiques.com. In the book "Chinese Export Porcelain" written by Herbert Schiffer and published by Peter and Nancy Schiffer, "Schiffer Publishing Ltd". On Page 131 Example #360 is listed. Herbert Schiffer writes "Rose Medallion is prodigal in the enormous variety of shapes, but in 20 years of business and even longer museum viewing, we have only seen this one example". I also do not recall in my years of collecting rose medallion, I have ever seen one either. I have had them in blue canton and many 18th century pieces. Recently we acquired a a large collection of Rose Medallion in Philadelphia and there were three of these in that collection. We are listing all three of these separately and offering them for sale. It is not known why this should be so rare. Rose Medallion is Prodigal in the enormous variety of shapes but in my 20 years of collecting. this and the other two are the only examples, I have ever seen. This one measures 4 1/4" to the top of the finial. With the cover off the height to the top of the rim is 3" and is 2 3/4" in diameter. It has double strapped handles and a nice gilded finial.
