Circa 1840 Chinese Export Rose Medallion Syllabub Cup with Cover. This is a great Rarity and we are posting three of these syllabubs with their original covers on our web site--www.mimisantiques.com. In the book "CHINESE EXPORT PORCELAIN" by Herbert Schiffer and Published by Peter and Nancy Schiffer, "SCHIFFER PUBLISHING LTD." On page 131, Example #360 is listed. Herbert Schiffer writes "Rose Medallion is prodigal in the enormous variety of shapes, but in 20 years of business and even longer Museum Viewing, we have only seen this one example". I do not recall in my years of collecting rose medallion, I have ever seen one either. I have had them in blue Canton and many 18th century pieces. Recently we acquired a a large collection of Rose Medallion in Philadelphia and there were three of these that were part of that collection. We are listing all three separately and offering them for sale. It is not known why this should be so Rare. rose Medallion is Prodigal as the enormous variety of shapes but in my 20 years of collecting, buying and selling, this one and the other two are the only examples I have ever seen.
