An outstanding C 1755 Worcester Cos Lettuce sauce boat, the overlapping lettuce leaves and veins finely highlighted in a vibrant pink. Exquisitely painted insects including caterpillar, butterflies, moths and beetles adorn the leaves. These sauceboats were produced for a very short period at Worcester, they are a delight to hold, a really wonderful and tactile shape. The base of the interior shows a single light blue flower and leaves.Throughout this early period at Worcester many of the wares produced were still vunerable to faults with the firing and this little sauceboat has a small firing fault to the very base of the foot below the handle, It is no more than 4mm long. There are no chips, cracks or restoration. A remarkable survivor from this very early Worcester period. Measures 17.5 cms long overall.
