Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire spill vase in the form of a zebra and foal standing beside a stream, in front of a tree. All four legs of the zebra, and two legs of the foal are molded free. Shredded clay decoration to the ground and spill. Pink spill interior. Similar piece illustrated figure a3124, page 277, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 3, by A.& N. Harding. Generally good. No hairlines. Small chip to piece of shredded clay at reverse. Several flakes to reverse. Some paint losses to ground and spill. Slight rubbing to the stripe at top of zebra''s front leg. Kiln effects: a few shrinkage cracks to the underside; firing mark to tail. Repaired crack to zebra''s hind right leg and front left leg. Retouched flake to ear of zebra and foal. 12ins high
