Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire spill vases each modeled as a black and white hound pursuing a stag. Naturalistically molded green and brown bases with floral decoration. Spill vase in the form of a tree with shredded clay decoration. Dull gilt base line and around spill rim. Similar piece illustrated figure 2915/2916, page 243, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Good. Some rubbing to gilt. Right facing: Minor paint loss to the flower. Kiln effect: small touch mark to base front. Repaired crack to stag''s hind legs and front left ankle. Repaired mold line crack over stag''s face and chest. Left facing: Minor paint loss to the flower. Slight fading of the black enamel. Kiln effects: shrinkage crack on one side of the tree; shrinkage line to reverse of stag. Repaired crack to underside and another along lower base edge at reverse. 11.5ins high
