We are pleased to offer a fine and rare pair of Phoenix Ware art nouveau pottery ewers by T Forester & Son circa 1900 of tapering cylindrical form with angular handles, tube lined in the Rembrandt pattern. The ewers are offered in good condition for age and measure 35 cm in height.
Thomas Forester where regarded as a leading manufacturer of earthenware and majolica and a pioneer of tube lining. The company started in a small works in High Street Longton in 1877and soon took additional premises in Church Street. He demolished the Church Street works and built the Phoenix Works in 1879. In the beginning of 1883 he took his sons Herbert and Victor into partnership. By 1893 the business was employing more than 500 employees. The company ceased trading in 1959.
