Hand painted miniature portrait vase. Everything about this little vase is unusual, from the textured to look like canvas surface to it's round shape with a round, tilted opening and gilded handle. The form is very similar to tooth pick holders that I have seen and this might have been designed to be a very formal, decorative one of those. The portrait itself is of a very well dressed smiling young women on one side and graceful landscapes with ethereal purple trees and mountains on the rest. The shaped handle and round opening are both gilded. Un-marked. Fresh from a local Brooklyn estate. Good condition with wear to the gilding. 3 1/2" tall x 3" diameter through the center.
