Antique vase, made in Japan 1891 - 1921, when the name Nippon was in use. Measures 7 1/4 inches high. Stands on 4 richly gilded paw feet, arching gently to the knees. Ovoid shaped body with a pastel, pale blue ground, narrows at the neck and flares out on the upper rim, which is moulded like fabric, square shaped, at an opposing angle to the vase, with gently scalloped edges and gilded, jeweled edges. Beautifully handles on either side - like a flipping tail, arching back and upwards. The small neck has a dark brown ground with a continuous key pattern in gold on it. The entire surface of the vase is wonderfully and very richly decorated with jewels - both gilded and enamelled. Each of the 4 sides has an enclosed reserve with handpainted roses, the front and back with raised gold outlines to the flowers and foliage. Fabulous quality. Green Nippon mark on the bottom. Very good condition. No chips/cracks/restorations. Please enquire about our other handpicked Nippon porcelain.
