Antique Art Deco pottery vase in the Golden Leaves, # 4921 pattern. Designed by Charlotte Rhead for Crown Ducal, England, 1930''s. 5 3/4 inches high. Art Deco modelled shape with different widths and steps, reminiscent of the skyskraper design of the era. Additional interest is from the unusual handles - each consisting of a series of loops and attached at different heights to the body of the vase. The body has a mottled creamy orange ground and is tube lined in lustrous steel grey. Rim and handles as well as some leaves are painted in a metallic soft gold, which is highly unusual and attractive. The pattern, which forms an almost continuous frieze around the vase, is Golden Leaves, #4921, which features bright orange flowers and foliage. Marked underneath: blue Crown Ducal backstam with crown over Crown Ducal Made in England; embossed 211. in a rectangle; handwritten 4921, which is the pattern number of Golden Leaves and Rhead with the R underlined and an F underneath it. At least two circles impressed into the body are probably the result of supports of the vase in the kiln. A sticker from the previous owner has been left under the vase (the vase was part of an impressive glass and pottery collection). Condition is very good: no chips/cracks/damage/restoration of any sort to be found.
