Victorian, circa 1860 Large Staffordshire hen on nest tureen. Modeled as a hen sitting on her eggs on top of a basket. Ochre glazed basket with naturalistic decoration to the hen. Cream interior. Stilt marks to underside and interior of tureen. Similar piece illustrated figure 2828, page 231, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Good. Hen: Kiln effect: a few shrinkage lines to interior. Three restored chips to flange. Retouched flakes to comb, beak, tail and wings. Basket: Small flake to exterior. Slight wear to rim. Kiln effects: kiln detritus to underside; base is slightly unevenly molded causing the basket to wobble slightly when on a flat surface. Three restored chips to flange. 9.75ins high, 11ins wide
