Large English Aesthetic Movement blue transfer ware soup tureen and under plate. This fine tureen is an exceptional example of the "Anglo-Japanesque" style popular on both sides of the Atlantic during the last quarter of the 19th century. All the out side surfaces are covered with Asian motifs, dragonflies, fans, flowers, butterflies, birds and even a man with a rifle. Even the undecorated surfaces of this fine serving piece has raised flowers as does the two open work handles and lid handle. Fully marked A. Shaw for the A. Shaw & Son, Mersey Pottery, Burslem, Staffordshire England and Java for the pattern. The tureen and lid are in good original condition, the under plate has an old repair which only shows slightly from the top. The under plate is 17" wide x 12" deep and the tureen is 14" wide (handle to handle) and 10" tall x 8 1/4" deep. Price 395
