A stunning Spode's New Stone tureen on raised base, with fitted stand and notched dome lid. Butterfly handles with beautiful gilt accents, in an early 'Japan' pattern, reminiscent of contemporary Mason's patterns or the slightly later 'Amherst Japan' pattern. Underglaze blue, with masses of overpainting by hand - iron red, cobalt blue, turquoise and green, highlighted with rich gilding in excellent order. The tureen and stand are in first class condition, showing little sign of wear in its 180+ years. Two tureens are available, very rare to find in this condition. Impressed 'Spode's New Stone' and painted number 3875 (by 1824 the Spode pattern books were up to 4000). Measurements are 8" X 6.50"
