This Arts and Crafts era tile depicts an Asian elephant and was made by Porceleyne fles, better known in the USA as Royal Delft. The smokey grey background glaze is unusual in these animal tiles. Most have their more familiar crystalline glaze. The back has beveled edges and an ink mark Holland. I have found this to mean that this tile was meant to be installed on a wall, and was for the American market. The condition is very good with no chipc cracks or restorations.
