A classical urn holding grape vines fills the front of this antique tile. Glazed in five colors, this piece staddles the Arts and Crafts and Art Deco periods in it''s design. It was installed at one time and has remnants of mortar on the back and sides, covering any manufacturing marks. However, this tile is pictured in an advertisement for Rookwood Pottery in Gustav Stickley''s The Craftsman magazine in February 1915. An image of this article can be seen in the book American Art Pottery by Sigafoose, page 192. The conditon is very good, there is a flake off the top right corner and smaller flakes on the top left and bottom left. A beautiful piece with excellent glazes.
