This tile measures 4.25 inches square and depicts a juvenile rendition of the state animal of California, the bear. Notice the blocks in the background with the CA. This tile was photographed for the book Encyclopedia of American Art Tile by Norman Karlson and can be found in Volume 4 page 209. The back has the embossed marks '' HERMOSA TRU-JOINT G.McB. & Co U.S.A. Pat. Pending''. The tile is made in the cuerda seca process. There is a flake on the bottom edge and another on the top right corner. A charming tile with a good provenance.
