I have to admit, I have never seen a hornbill depicted on a tile before. Hornbills are birds that are found in tropical and sub-tropical Africa and Asia. They nest in cavities of trees, the female enclosing herself by filling the entrance with mud. A small slit is left so the male can feed the female while she incubates their eggs. This tile is hand formed and decorated. The back is pierced through the top edge to allow a wire hanger. It is impressed by the artist somewhat illegibly ARSTHEx JORGEx DENMARK.
