This large tile plaque certainly evokes the Arts and Crafts aesthetic with it's matte glazes and stylized form. Most likely the work of Nis Stougaard (1906-87)this depicts Østerlars, a 12th century round church in Svaneke on the island of Bornholm. Østerlars is the largest of four round churches on the island, built this way for defense. It's a beautiful image, and even though the main focus is a church, it is not overtly religious.
The back is simply marked "Sveneke". The edges of the hand formed plaque has incised holes through the sides to accommodate a wire to use as a hanger. The condition remains excellent.
