Circa 1890 Mafra Majolica Palissy teapot modeled as two snakes among cabbage leaves. One snake forms the handle, the other larger snake coils underneath the leaves with its head forming the spout. Cabbage leaves cover. Cream interior and underside, with impressed maker''s mark ''''M.MAFRA CALDAS PORTUGAL'' inside the foot rim. Good. Teapot: Tiny chip to leaf, under smaller snake''s head. Flake to underside of larger snake''s mouth. Tiny flakes to leaf edges. Kiln effects: shrinkage crack along the mold join where the snake coil joins the base. Repair to one leaf (original leaf reattached). Restored chips to some leaf edges. Cover: Minor flaking to leaf edges. Restored chips to leaf edges. 6ins high by 8ins wide
