Victorian, circa 1870 Majolica oval bread platter with cobalt blue center. Green cornfield surround with relief molded corn ears. Large ears of corn at either end which form handles. Brown relief basketweave border with inscription molded ''EAT THY BREAD WITH JOY AND THANKFULNESS'' inside ochre rim. Brown and ochre mottled reverse with three stilt marks. Ochre inside the foot rim with painted mark ''27''. Generally good. No hairlines. Some flaking to rim and high points of the molding. Some wear to interior. Kiln effects: a few touch marks to rim; some green glaze run. Old repaired crack to rim (still partly visible). Old restored chip to under rim. Some retouched flakes. 10.75ins by 13.25ins
