Circa 1880 Majolica Palissy platter with a snake in the center on an island of shells and seaweed. Fish and further shells in the surrounding water. Lizard, frog, stag beetle, moth and an eel/worm along with leaves and ferns molded around the edge. Mottled brown and cream reverse with cobalt spots. Good. No hairlines. Chip to tail of smaller fish. Flake to lizard tail and moth eye. Kiln effect: shrinkage crack to stag beetle horn. Repaired crack across one end of platter with frog retouched and missing an eye. 9ins by 14ins wide
