A beautiful antique porcelain shell dish made by Edmé Samson porcelains in the style of Lowestoft / Chinese Export porcelain. The shell dish has a scalloped edge with a formed and gilt handle, The fluted interior is decorated with panels of geometric tiles in shades of pink to raspberry, enhanced with finely painted of sprays of flowers. Edmé Samson (1810-1891) also known as the “great imitator” founded the French ceramics firm of Samson, Edmé et Cie. At first his firm supplied reproductions of famous ceramic pieces for museums and private collectors. His hard paste copies of early English pieces are often confused for the originals.
