Circa 1890 Cunha Majolica Palissy wall plate with a lizard being attacked by a snake from within its burrow. A frog is sat above the burrow with a further lizard outside. Two moths and a grub on the edge, all on green mossy ground. Scalloped rim. Cream reverse with two hanging holes on the foot. Three stilt marks and impressed maker''s mark ''JOSE A. CUNHA PORTUGAL CALDAS RAINHA'' inside the foot. Good. No hairlines. Minor flaking to the moss. Three under rim flakes. Kiln effects: shrinkage crack inside the foot; slight staining in places to reverse. Tiny restored chip to tip of moth wing. 9.5ins diameter
