Circa 1890 Mafra Majolica Palissy wall plate with a snake confronting a lizard in the center, and a beetle to the rim on mossy ground. Brown reverse with two hanging holes on the foot rim. Three stilt marks and impressed maker''s marks ''M.MAFRA CALDAS PORTUGAL'' and ''8'' all inside the foot rim. Generally good. Crack to the snake''s body. No hairlines. No chips. Some small flakes to the moss and one to the lizard''s upper jaw (colored in). Kiln effect: shrinkage crack to hind right ankle of lizard. Old restoration of snake''s tail. 8.25ins diameter
