Victorian, circa 1870 Set of three gradated Holdcroft Majolica pitchers in the form of a bear holding a drum and drumsticks behind his head. Handle in the form of a cobalt drum strap. Turquoise interior. Light green underside with three stilt marks, a painted cobalt mark and impressed maker''s mark ''J.HOLDCROFT''. Similar piece illustrated on page 107, Abrams ''Majolica A complete History and illustrated Survey'' by Karmason & Stacke. Good. Large: Tiny flakes to drum rim. Restored chip to lower lip. Medium: No restoration. Flake to underside of left paw. Kiln effects: shrinkage line along the mold join to bear''s right side; small over glazed manufacture chip to drum rim; glaze pops to arms and drum. Small: Restoration of lower jaw.
