This is a lovely little transfer-printed pitcher with fine motifs relating to the sea. One side displays a full compass rose flanked by sailing vessels, the other side is emblazoned with a sentimental poem about a seafaring man. The floral borders of the poem and other details are highlighted with colored glazes, while the background in rare orange luster. Sunderland, Durham, England, circa 1830-1840. Approximately 5-1/4 inches high by 6-1/4 inches wide at the handle. Excellent condition with little wear, although there is a shallow chip on the bottom edge. (See photograph 3.)
