Circa 1890 Large Mafra Majolica Palissy ewer and stand. Ewer featuring a large lizard handle, three further lizards, a salamander, tortoise and toad to the main body. All on green mossy ground. Cream interior. Cream to underside of ewer with three stilt marks and impressed mark ''M.MAFRA CALDAS PORTUGAL''. Green to underside of stand with three stilt marks and impressed mark ''M.MAFRA CALDAS PORTUGAL''. Good. Ewer: Two small chips to moss around rim. A few small flakes to the rim, toad, one lizard''s tail and another to lower base edge. Repair to head of small lizard. Stand: No restoration. Chips to foot. Some flaking to moss. Some wear to interior. Kiln effects: shrinkage crack running around interior; kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the interior and reverse. 10.5ins diameter, 13.75ins high
