For Sale is a nice piece of Art Pottery made by The Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The Pattern is called "Silhouette" and it is in a Paneled Ewer Shape. This piece of Pottery has some size as it stands 10 1/2" tall, 5" wide outside handle measurement and 4 1/2" deep.
The Ewer displays a very unique brown background glaze with some green over spray at the bottom of the 4 sided platform. There are 2 Panels, Front and Back, that displays a Waterlily Flower in full Bloom with a Cattail Rising up behind it. These are set inside of panels with vertical ribbing. The pattern is done in raised relief. This is a very pleasing pattern and will work with most decors, especially Mid Century Modern. The opposites sides are smooth with one sided having an attached triangular handle. The Ewer has the daintiest spout for pouring water.
The Ewer is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips, or dings. There are a few areas of lighter glaze imperfections but nothing obtrusive. It is extremely clean and appears to have seen minimal use. The Ewer is signed on the bottom "Roseville U.S.A." and the mold number 717-10" in raised relief. There is also the letter "B" written in a Blue Ink or Grease Pencil and a impressed "34". This was more than likely a finishers or Artist initials and inspection #.
Those of you who collect Silhouette Vases and want an excellent example both in form and glaze should not let this one pass by. This is a stylistic influenced Ewer with a sleek Art Deco Style. This Ewer was made Circa 1950 just after World War II.
