Pratt type ‘Hearty Good Fellow’ toby jug, the creamware body decorated in
high fired colours of cobalt blue, burnt orange, black and brown, his coat, waistcoat and the base with spotted blue & orange, the stockings striped, clutching a jug and pipe.
Circa 1790
References: Ref. Lewis ‘Pratt ware’ p221 for a similar figure, and the description of one in the Price collection with ‘... a white coat sponged with cobalt blue and burnt orange .....’ He speculates Ralph Wood the younger himself as the original modeller.
Condition: restored hat & slight part of face overpainted, hand & jug re-attached
