Symbols of long life and good fortune, the crane is a most cherished symbol, and bird of course, for the Japanese. And cranes abound in this oh so Victorian pattern by Minton. Condition quite good. Some crazing and discoloration, mild. The yellowing can be bleached out; at a risk. Antiques are often more valuable left "as is". This would seem to me to be a vanity set. It bears the Minton mark extant during the late 1800's, towards the latter portion of the Victorian era. Chinoiserie was extremely popular in England and Europe, in part because the first porcelain formulas came from the Far East. This set is an absolute gem!
