Victorian, circa 1860 Rare Staffordshire figure of a black and white spaniel smoking a pipe seated on a turquoise rococo style base. Front legs molded free. Dull gilt collar and locket. Decorated all round. Vent hole to base. Similar piece illustrated on page 133, ''A-Z of Staffordshire Dogs'' by Clive Mason Pope. Good. No cracks. No hairlines. No chips. One small flake to right ear. Minor paint losses front of base. Rubbing to gilt. Kiln effects: faint, over glazed shrinkage line running along the mold join down spaniel''s back. Restoration of the pipe and to right haunch. Retouching to nose. 8.5ins high, 7ins wide
