Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire cow creamer, molded as a milkmaid standing behind a cow. Hole in milkmaid''s hat where cream would be poured in and hole in cow''s mouth where it would be poured out. Dull gilt decoration. Similar piece illustrated figure 2319, page 161, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Generally good. No chips. Gilt rubbed. Kiln effects: two shrinkage lines to cow''s neck; shrinkage crack by maid''s left leg and another to underside; touch mark to front of base; stained crazing to cow''s belly and ground. Old restoration to cow''s mouth, ears and horns. Repaired shrinkage crack to underside of base at reverse. Retouching to maid''s hat, eyes, shoes, hair and cow''s markings. 7.5ins high, 9ins wide
